Those January days

India is changing,,, Covid left a dent in many lives in India and across the globe. The government took many steps to make people aware of the virus and forced people to stay home. The working class and traders got badly affected though the virus did not hurt the rural economy much except the fact that non essential items could not be sold in nearby towns.

Mumbai survived… people reacted in their own ways. Most Bachelors working in various industries including IT, went back to their parental homes across the nation. What could be a better vacation and enjoyment of life with parents after spending years away from home, studying and struggling for a professional life. Married but separated by work location couples are getting a lots of time together. India really relaxed. Best was served for Kids — particularly who could go to their ancestral homes in smaller towns where lock-down was not that bad and one can play out in the open, or on roofs.

India is changing — before we realized, there was this digital infrastructure in place that helped India to face the challenges. Work from Home was enabled across country — think about penetration of mobile network to corners of the nation… even in District Zero or One or what not the westerners would like to call. No line ups to take money from Banks … digital took over almost flawlessly. Food and medicine — surprising efficiency. Everything was delivered at home. Home quarantine in a remote town — even the supposed to be lousiest local admin delivered wonderfully.

Its a pity to see Europe and US facing major issues and loss of life. Perhaps, some Researcher somewhere will get time to do a good research on what went right, here and what is wrong in older civilizations. Pandemic is not gone … and hence, learning quickly and correcting the courses of action should not be a bad idea.
